Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani commented on statements made in Washington about a possible invasion of Iranian territory in a post on X.
“Some American officials have stated that they intend to deploy several thousand troops to Iranian territory. The brave sons of Imam Khomeini and Imam Khamenei are waiting for you, ready to disgrace these corrupt American officials by killing and capturing thousands of people,” Ali Larijani wrote.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday did not rule out the possibility of a US ground operation in Iran, but noted that there are currently no such plans.
“At the moment this is not part of the operational plan, but of course I will never rule out military options on behalf of the President of the United States or the Commander-in-Chief (Donald Trump), and he wisely does the same,” Leavitt said at a briefing in response to a question about the possibility and objectives of a ground operation in Iran.
It should be recalled that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while speaking with journalists in Congress on March 3, noted that US President Donald Trump could deploy ground troops in Iran.
