The US will first focus on reducing Iran's ability to strike Middle Eastern countries and American forces in the region, and only then begin escorting vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said on Friday.

"First, we need to significantly reduce its ability to cause trouble, and then, once that becomes reasonable, we will begin escorting ships through the strait, and energy will start flowing again," he said in an interview with Fox News.

According to the minister, all US military capabilities are currently focused on suppressing Iran's ability to "sow chaos among its neighbors and Americans in the region."

Gulf states have been unable to export fuel due to the military conflict in the region and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
