The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has sworn allegiance to the country's new Supreme Leader Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, Iranian media report.

Also, the media published footage of the Iranian people rejoicing and celebrating the election of the new leader.

Thousands of people gathered in the streets in the evening. They chanted loudly and waved flags.

As reported earlier, Mojtaba Khamenei is the son of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed at the beginning of the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.

Ali Khamenei, who led Iran for 37 years, was killed in a US-Israeli strike on Tehran on February 28.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have also addressed this process, stating that they will pursue any successor to Iran's slain Supreme Leader.

US President Donald Trump, in turn, has stated that Iran's new Supreme Leader will not last long without US approval.
