Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is not on the European Union (EU) sanctions list, said Anouar El Anouni, spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for the European Commission of the EU.

The EU sanctions list is open for review, and Mojtaba Khamenei is not under European sanctions, El Anouni told a press briefing Monday.

Also, he recalled that the decision to include a person on the EU sanctions list falls under the competence of the EU Council and is adopted unanimously by all 27 member states of the European Union.
