Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the Middle East situation and the Ukraine peace process with his American counterpart Donald Trump, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told journalists, RIA Novosti reports.

"The emphasis was indeed placed on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and on the ongoing bilateral negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement involving US representatives," he said.

Putin expressed a number of considerations aimed at the earliest possible political and diplomatic resolution of the Middle East situation. Trump, in turn, gave his assessment in the context of the joint operation with Israel.

According to Ushakov, the conversation took place at the American president's initiative and lasted about an hour. "The presidents also touched on the issue of Venezuela — primarily in the context of the situation on the global oil market," he added.
