The Trump administration is on a path to putting US troops on the ground in Iran, Democratic Party Senator Richard Blumenthal stated after a closed Senate briefing on Operation Epic Fury in Iran.

“We seem to be on a path toward deploying American troops on the ground in Iran to accomplish any of the potential objectives,” the senator told reporters after the briefing.

Blumenthal said he left the briefing “as dissatisfied and angry, frankly, as I have from any past briefing in my 15 years in the Senate.”

Blumenthal said he is “most concerned” about threats the conflict could pose to American lives and the potential for US boots on the ground in Iran.

“I am left with more questions than answers, especially about the cost of the war,” he said. “My questions have been unanswered, and I will demand answers because the American people deserve to know.”

US President Donald Trump has previously not ruled out the possibility of a US ground operation in Iran if the latter’s incumbent authorities retain control of the country.

Also, Trump has publicly admitted that he may send US special forces to Iran to seize its enriched uranium reserves.
