Kazakhstan's Mazhilis has ratified an Agreement with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan on a strategic partnership in the production and transmission of green energy, Sputnik Kazakhstan reports.

The document provides for the expansion of domestic energy infrastructure and the development of new power transmission lines, as well as the implementation of a project to transmit green energy by laying an underwater cable across the Caspian seabed from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan, with subsequent integration into the Black Sea energy corridor and electricity supply to European countries.

"The Agreement is framework in nature and does not provide for the automatic assumption of financial or other obligations, while the implementation of specific projects will be carried out based on separate agreements and within the framework of national legislation, which minimizes risks and ensures the phased implementation of the Agreement," said Mazhilis deputy Edil Zhanbyrshin.

The Agreement also provides for the effective use of renewable energy potential, the development of trade in clean electricity between the countries and with European states. Additionally, interconnection of the energy systems of Central Asia and Azerbaijan will be ensured for the purpose of sustainable and predictable export of green electricity, the Mazhilis emphasized.
