The G7 countries have decided not to lift sanctions against Russia despite the tense situation on the global oil market due to the escalating Middle East conflict, French President Emmanuel Macron announced at a press conference.

According to him, G7 participants concluded that the current situation does not constitute grounds for easing or lifting restrictive measures against Moscow.

Earlier, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the Trump administration is considering further easing of sanctions on Russian oil, prompted by energy market instability following the US-Israeli military operation against Iran, which has disrupted regional oil supplies and driven up fuel prices.

Trump had previously said the US might temporarily ease oil supply sanctions for some countries to stabilize the market and contain price rises, while suggesting these restrictions might not subsequently be reimposed.

The European Commission, meanwhile, emphasized that Washington must comply with existing sanctions against Russian oil and gas.
