Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has issued his first statement, confirming the deaths of several members of his family in a recent attack. The statement was disseminated by several Iranian media outlets.
In the statement, Khamenei said that among the dead were his close relatives, including his wife, sister, and several other family members.
He said that what happened was a heavy personal loss for him, but stressed that such losses would not change the course of Iran.
"In addition to my father [the slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei], whose loss was a national grief, I also accompanied my beloved and loyal wife, my selfless sister, her young child, and my other sister's husband to the caravan of martyrs," the statement said.
Also, Mojtaba Khamenei expressed confidence that Iran will continue to follow its chosen path despite pressures and losses, and that the memory of the casualties will become a source of resistance and unity for the country.
