The US has warned its citizens to “reconsider travel” to Azerbaijan amid rising Iran conflict fears, Alex Raufoglu, an Azerbaijani journalist living in the US, has announced on X.

Raufoglu added that the US State Department raised its advisory to Level 3 following drone strikes and “ongoing threat” of missile attacks from Iran.

The State Department said in a statement that it is reconsidering travel to Azerbaijan due to the risk of terrorism, armed conflict, and minefields. The risk has increased in some areas.

According to the statement, people should not travel to the southern border region due to the risk of armed conflict—unless it is the best land exit from Iran, and the border with Armenia due to the risk of minefields, and the former Soviet-era Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast and surrounding areas due to minefields.

It is noted that since the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Iran on February 28, there has been a continuing threat of drone and missile attacks from Iran, and the drone strike at Nakhchivan International Airport on March 5 is also mentioned.
