Iran has granted permission for two Indian gas tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, despite the general blockade of the strategic waterway.

According to Reuters, the vessels are carrying LNG to India. The first tanker has already successfully transited the strait, with the second expected to follow in the coming days.

Official Indian and Iranian sources confirm that this decision represents an exception amid the tense regional situation and the near-complete halt of shipping through the strait.

As Pars Today reports, passage for the two Indian vessels was secured through the release of three Iranian tankers that had been detained last month.
