At least 62 people have been killed in Kenya over the past week after heavy rains caused massive flooding, BBC News reports, citing local authorities.

Heavy rains last week triggered flash floods. Rivers burst their banks, flooding homes and damaging roads, power lines, and water supply. Some roads were closed after bridges were damaged in Nairobi, while some schools were also flooded following Saturday's downpour.

Kenya's Interior Ministry warned on Sunday that heavy rains continue in various parts of the country, increasing the risk of flooding.

Authorities urged residents of low-lying areas to move to safer locations, and more than 2,000 people were forced to leave their homes in search of shelter.

Police report that search and rescue operations are continuing following "heavy rains and the subsequent devastating flood that affected various parts of the country."
