The work we have carried out with the Russian Federation over the past 2-3 months has shown that the situation there at the community level is paralyzed. Zareh Sinanyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia, stated this during the presentation of the 2025 performance report of the government's 2021-2026 program at a meeting of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport on Tuesday.

According to him, those operating within the Armenian community of Russia who represent the interests of the person who previously announced his intention to become the prime minister of Armenia (apparently, this is about the Russian Armenian businessman and leader of the Strong Armenia party, Samvel Karapetyan – ed.) are very actively and aggressively promoting his interests, intimidating people and putting pressure on them.

“They offer specific things, they want specific things. And this affects our ability to work, significantly. People are scared. People are in a kind of waiting state. They say, ‘We don’t want to raise our heads too high for a while.’ Let’s remember that Russia is a unique country after all. If someone is doing such work there, it means that they were allowed to do that work. I don’t want to say more,” Sinanyan added.

At the same time, the Armenian official admitted that they still cannot have any serious influence on the situation.

“Today, there are old structures in the [Russian Armenian] community that do not want to come to terms with the current reality of Armenia. And they even try to hinder various state work," Armenian government representative noted.
