Russia hopes to continue cooperation with Armenia in the energy sector. Dmitry Litskaya, Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Armenia, stated this at the conference, entitled “BRICS+ Cooperation in the Nuclear Energy Sector,” on Thursday.

According to Litskaya, the possibility of building a new nuclear power unit in Armenia is currently being actively discussed.

The Russian diplomat noted that Russian state corporation Rosatom is ready to continue providing its Armenian partners with nuclear energy production at the highest level, meeting modern safety and environmental standards.

As an example, Litskaya mentioned the operation of Armenia’s Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant, which is serviced by Rosatom. He noted that work is currently underway to extend the service life of the plant.

"Rosatom is working to ensure that the plant operates in accordance with the highest quality standards. Its location in the seismic zone of Armenia is also taken into account. All this is done so that the plant continues to serve as a stabilizer and a powerful energy pillar for the development of Armenia, which, based on its own nuclear energy production, will be able to plan its economic development and provide socioeconomic support for its programs," Litskaya added.
