Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan believes his cooperation with the National Security Service cannot in any way be compared to the activities of the brother of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, Archbishop Ezras Nersisyan, with the KGB of the USSR.

Speaking to journalists on March 23, the Minister prefaced his answer to the relevant question with a remark about the political motivation behind such questions, noting that he had answered it on multiple occasions. Nevertheless, Mirzoyan repeated: Armenia's NSS engaged him as a specialist in one important field, and although he was very opposition-minded at the time, he considered that the interests of the state outweighed his attitude toward the authorities and agreed to "help the NSS" by providing expert assistance. The cooperation ended after a short time, Mirzoyan assured.

The Minister believes that "drawing parallels between a person who tried to help the NSS of his own country and a person who was an agent of an empire"… Mirzoyan was unable to finish the thought clearly, as journalists promptly reminded him that during Ezras Nersisyan's period of cooperation, the "empire" was in fact his own state.
