Iran is seeking the ability to charge fees for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz as one of its conditions in possible indirect negotiations with the US, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources.

As the outlet explains, representatives of Arab states "have been negotiating with both sides separately for several days." In their assessment, "enormous disagreements" remain between the US and Iran, including, allegedly, due to demands put forward by Tehran.

According to WSJ sources, it is proposed to establish control over the strait by a "neutral regional committee." The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is allegedly "demanding a new order that would allow Iran to charge fees from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz." In addition, according to the newspaper, the IRGC "demands that the conflict not resume" and is seeking an end to Israeli strikes on positions of the Shia movement Hezbollah in Lebanon, the closure of American military bases in the Persian Gulf, and compensation for damages caused.
