Residents of Bat Yam descended into a public shelter during an air raid siren and discovered a 23-year-old man inside. According to preliminary reports, the young man was a reservist who had died by suicide. Residents called emergency services, who pronounced him dead at the scene.

Suicides among reservists have become more frequent since the outbreak of the "Iron Swords" war. Many service members are confronted with traumatic events and extreme workloads. Military service takes a heavy toll on personal life, tears families apart, and disrupts employment.

In 2025 alone, at least nine reservists died by suicide, with reports of further tragic cases emerging since then.

There is growing criticism within the military of "unprecedented burnout" among soldiers. After two and a half years of combat, reservists are feeling intense pressure. The IDF attempted to set a cap of 60 days of reserve duty per person in 2026 — an extremely high threshold that has proven difficult to maintain due to the mass mobilization required for Operation Roar of the Lion.
