Moldova has declared a state of emergency in its energy sector for a period of 60 days after the main electricity import line — Vulcănești–Isaccea — was shut down following attacks on infrastructure in southern Ukraine, local media report.

The decision was taken at an emergency session, with authorities citing serious risks to the country's energy security. The measure must still be reviewed and approved by parliament.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that the situation is unprecedented and requires immediate action.

"The consequences of the war in Ukraine can no longer be ignored. These attacks directly affect us, and the risks to the energy system are real," he said.

According to authorities, the damaged line had supplied up to 70% of the right bank's electricity needs, and a deficit of up to 400 MW is now forecast during peak consumption hours.
