The court has acquitted Ashkhen Aleksanyan of treason charges, her lawyer Abgar Poghosyan wrote on his Facebook page.

“The Criminal Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan (presided over by Ani Danielyan) delivered a verdict in the case of Armenian Foreign Ministry employee Ashkhen Aleksanyan, acquitting her of high treason under Article 418 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (punishable by 15–20 years in prison or life imprisonment).

According to the court, her actions fell under Article 441, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (maximum penalty: four years in prison).

Although the defense will also appeal the ruling to the Court of Criminal Appeals, we would like to express special gratitude to the court for its impartial, objective, and unbiased consideration of the case,” the lawyer stated.

He also noted that Ashkhen Aleksanyan had in fact been subjected to unfair public defamation — with her photos circulated, the presumption of innocence violated, and false information spread that had nothing to do with reality.

It should be noted that the article cited by the court concerns improper performance of official duties.
