Armenia will not have air communication with Russia if it joins the European Union (EU), Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk warned, TASS reports.

“There is currently no [Russian] air communication with the countries of the European Union, which means we will not have air communication with Armenia,” Overchuk emphasized.

He noted that Armenian citizens should realize the possible consequences of the decision taken by Yerevan to get closer to the EU.

“Perhaps this sounds very harsh, but we [i.e. Russia] want people in Armenia to understand that if this happens, it will happen because decisions on rapprochement with the European Union have been adopted,” the Russian deputy premier said.

At the same time, according to Overchuk, it remains unknown how Armenia’s EU membership bid will ultimately end.
