Trade between Iran and Armenia has suffered slightly since the US and Israel started the war against Iran, Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami stated an event held at Yerevan State University on Tuesday.

Also, he noted that the war has not had a significant negative impact on Iran’s economic cooperation with Armenia. The Iranian diplomat added that trade between the two countries continues, their border is open, and vehicles—including buses and trucks—are passing through.

In addition, Shirgholami noted the plans to build a second bridge over the Araks River between Armenia and Iran, which will also contribute to the development of economic ties between them.

“When this project is completed, our economic ties will expand. We [i.e. Iran] are in touch with Armenian officials on this issue. This will be a joint project. By activating new transit routes between Iran and Armenia, including railway connections, we can make a positive contribution to the development of our relations," said the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
