US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces have begun "mine clearance preparations" in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a CENTCOM statement.
"Two US Navy destroyers — USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy — transited the Strait of Hormuz and commenced operations in the Persian Gulf as part of a broader mission to fully clear the strait of mines," the statement reads.
Earlier, Axios reported that several US Navy vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday without coordination with Iran.
