The opposition Lelo/Strong Georgia party demands to rename the deep-sea port of Anaklia. According to them, it should be renamed after US President Donald Trump, Georgian media reported.

Secretary general of Lelo, Irakli Kupradze, stated that the port, 49% of whose shares should be received by the Chinese-Singaporean consortium, should be turned into a gateway to the Western world by the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, which, according to him, will bring security, Western investments, and economic prosperity to Georgia.

Kupradze noted that after the agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8, 2025 with the mediation of the US, “a major international transit route, which was named TRIPP,” will appear in the Caucasus.

“This route should not bypass Georgia, and its implementation is possible only through the construction of the Anaklia port, which will become a logical continuation of the ‘Trump Route,” Kupradze stated. The Lelo/Strong Georgia party believes that the Anaklia port is “a large-scale initiative that fully corresponds to the strategic priorities declared by the US and President Trump’s administration,” therefore it should be implemented, rather than creating an imitation of it, Kupradze noted.
