US authorities have arrested Seyed Eissa Hashemi, the son of former Iranian vice president for women and family affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar (served 2017–2021), and revoked his green card, the State Department said.

Hashemi was arrested along with his wife and son. All three are now awaiting deportation. They had been living in the US since 2014 and received green cards in 2016.

But this is not the first such case. Earlier, US authorities had arrested and revoked the green cards of the niece and granddaughter of General Qasem Soleimani, who was killed by US forces in 2020. The daughter of Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, who was killed in a US military operation recently, and her husband have also been stripped of their permanent residency status in the US. Also, they are banned from entering the country.
