Saudi Arabia is pressuring the US to lift its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks with Iran, Arab officials said, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Riyadh warns that the aforesaid blockade could lead to wider disruptions to global shipping routes. In particular, there are fears that Iran could strike the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea, which is vital for Saudi oil exports.

The US blockade of Iranian ports came into effect on Monday after diplomatic efforts over the weekend failed.

The White House has announced that it continues to engage with Gulf allies and is focused on ensuring the smooth transportation of energy resources.
