A four-hour meeting of Israel's security cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ended without a ceasefire in Lebanon, Ynet reports, citing a source.

"At this stage, we have not made any progress towards a ceasefire," the source said.

The meeting was convened Wednesday evening.

The Israeli security cabinet comprises the main ministers of the government's security bloc.

Earlier, a preliminary round of Lebanese-Israeli talks was held in Washington, after which Israeli ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter lauded the atmosphere of these talks and declared the unity of the two sides on the need to disarm Hezbollah.

However, the parties have not yet reached any concrete agreement on a ceasefire.
