Amid escalating geopolitical tensions, Azerbaijan reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in his address to the participants of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

According to Aliyev, a “profound transformation” has taken place in the South Caucasus since 2021. He claimed that Azerbaijan has fully restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity and has begun the process of forming a peace agenda with Armenia. He also pointed to the “historic progress” recorded in the normalization of relations, which, in his assessment, was achieved during the summit held in Washington last August.

Aliyev stated that trade relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have already been established, and Baku provides transit opportunities for Yerevan. According to him, mutual visits of Armenian and Azerbaijani civil society representatives contribute to confidence building.

In addition, the Azerbaijani leader emphasized that his country acts as a transport hub. He noted the growing importance of the Middle Corridor and added that the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” will further enhance regional connectivity, linking Asia and Europe and contributing to broader transport, energy, and digital networks.

To note, the term “Zangezur Corridor” was not used in the documents signed in Washington on August 8, 2025 and there are no such agreements between the parties. They note the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, but Azerbaijan continues to use the word “corridor,” which, according to experts, distorts the content of the agreements reached.
