President Donald Trump said he expects Iran to continue talks with the US, warning of serious consequences if it refuses to do so.

He stressed his hopes for an agreement, but ruled out the possibility of Tehran acquiring nuclear weapons.

Earlier, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf had said that Iran would not negotiate as long as Washington continues to pressure it and is ready to demonstrate a new balance of power.

Talks between the two sides in the Pakistani capital city of Islamabad on April 11 had failed to produce an agreement. The possibility of a new round of talks remains open.
