The main Armenian church in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) capital Stepanakert was destroyed, razed to the ground, and another church was demolished a few days ago by Azerbaijanis. The chairman of the Bright Armenia party, Edmon Marukyan, stated this on Facebook.

He added as follows: "I want to draw a comparison that an Israeli soldier was destroying a statue of Jesus Christ in the territory of Lebanon and the photo was spread, the entire Christian world condemned [it], the Israeli prime minister spoke about it, expressing regret, condemning; numerous Israeli officials, the Christian world, numerous Christian organizations.

And now, regarding the destruction of Armenian culture, Christian culture, the culture of the first Christian nation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Armenian statehood, the Prime Minister's staff, the President's staff, the Security Council, representatives of civil society who go to [Azerbaijani capital] Baku with smiles, hold meetings, invite representatives of the Azerbaijani KGB here, as representatives of civil society, hold meetings here with smiles; nothing is said, no one is saying anything.

Who have we [i.e. Armenians] become? Who are we in general? That is, will none of our state institutions condemn this? Do you remember that great church in Stepanakert, they [i.e. the Azerbaijanis] razed it to the ground. What? They are just demolishing, razing everything to the ground, and you believe in this initialed peace document?

I think that our authorities, those people who are responsible for making that statement today, condemning it, informing the world, appealing to UNESCO, you simply have no shame. The secretary of the Security Council [of Armenia] wrote a book about the revolution [in the country in 2018], he is going to Greece for some conference, to discuss something with [Azerbaijani presidential aide] Hikmet Hajiyev there. Who are you? What have you become? Won't you make any sound? Won't you say anything?

On June 7 [parliamentary elections in Armenia], we all have the opportunity to stop all this. If not, the destruction of Armenian Christian culture will continue in the territory of today's Armenia, the ‘real Armenia,’ because today we are not saying anything about everything that is happening, as Armenians, as a person, as Christians, as a state.
