U.S. President Donald Trump, in a speech during Britain’s King Charles and Queen Camilla's visit, stated that his mother was "in love" with the King, NBC News reports.

Trump recalled the late Queen Elizabeth II in his speech, noting that he had the honor of getting to know her closely.

"Today we see a living symbol of this centuries-old bond just a few dozen feet to the left," he said, referring to a tree that the late Queen planted on the White House grounds in 1991.

"Queen Elizabeth II—a very, very special woman who is greatly missed on both sides of this mighty Atlantic—planted a sapling a long time ago; it was very young and beautiful, and look at it now," the U.S. President remarked.

Trump also recalled that his Scottish-born mother had a great love for the British Royal Family and Queen Elizabeth II.

"Whenever the Queen was in a ceremony or anything else, my mother would be glued to the television and say, 'Look, Donald. Look how beautiful that is,'" he said.

He added that he remembered his mother saying, "Young Charles was so handsome."

"My mother was in love with Charles, can you believe that? I wonder what she’s thinking right now," he added.
