PARIS. – France’s Constitutional Council will make decision on constituting to the law the bill criminalizing the denial of genocides recognized by France on Tuesday (at 8.00 p.m. Yerevan time), Nouvelles d`Arménie reports.

Valerie Boyer-proposed bill was adopted by the French National Assembly and ratified by the Senate on Jan. 23. However, a group of MPs and Senators influenced by pro-Turkish and pro-Azerbaijani lobbyists and Ankara appealed the bill to the Constitutional Council on Jan. 31, which has the authority and may cancel the bill to please Turkey.

As Le Canard Enchainé newspaper reports many of the members of the Council used to be against so called ‘memorable’ laws.

One of them even is a member of pro-Turkish lobby and influenced the Senators to appeal the bill.

As for the head of the Council Jean-Louis Debré, he is known for his opposition to criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide. Taking into account intensive pressure by the Turkish lobby as well as French MFA and defense field, it is still unclear whether legal arguments will prevail over the statements.
