PreferredYEREVAN. – If E-commerce develops in Armenia, the monopolized markets will not be able to survive for long, stated Karen Vardanyan, Executive Director of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises.
In his words, E-commerce will benefit the balancing of the prices. “First and foremost, I mean those types of products whose domestic prices are substantially higher than their international prices. For example, computers and technical instruments,” Vardanyan said.
In his turn, the Economy Minister’s advisor Vahe Danielyan noted that E-commerce enables to import any product to Armenia and in any quantity. But, as per Danielyan, E-commerce is primarily conducted with small-quantity products, and in that case the importers of large-quantity products receive a relative advantage because of the lower cost price for transport. “By and large, E-commerce is the domain of retail trade. The competition in retail trade will grow infinitely, and everyone wins from this,” Vahe Danielyan argued.
