YEREVAN. – Russia will preserve ‘an important’ role in the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiations, with Vladimir Putin’s election as a President, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian told Radio Liberty. 

“I believe the negotiations will continue as there are no alternatives. Peaceful negotiations, which are Armenia’s choice, are supported actively by the third states’ co-chairs,” FM said adding Russia has played an important role recently and it will be major mediator in future as well.

To note, Russia, still under Dmitri Medvedev’s office, took the role of the most active co-chair in Karabakh negotiations initiating additional provisions in the OSCE Minsk Group in the triplet meeting among Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents.
