YEREVAN. - The results of parliamentary elections in Iran will hardly affect internal policy and foreign policy vector, says Russian expert Igor Dobayev.

Dobayev, Deputy Director, Center for Systemic Regional Studies and Forecasting at the Southern Federal University, stressed that in fact the power remains in the same hands.

“Religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has not changed his views. President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who on my opinion is not as religious as it seems, remains the president of the Islamic Republic. The point is whether ayatollah’s supporters gaining majority of the votes will be able to affect the policy. I do not think so,” he said.

Commenting on the Iranian authorities’ refusal to register liberals and reformists, Dobayev drew parallels with the Russian elections.

“It happened as the Iranian liberals, reformists and pseudo democrats are instigated by the West. The country retaining sovereignty and territorial integrity does not need such people. Elections in Russia showed who stands behind so-called pro-Western movement,” the expert said.

Majority of Iranians support the existing regime, it is obvious, expert stressed..

“There is no considerable, influential pro-Western movement in Iran. They are either political forces instigated by the Western states, or individuals who will disappear as quickly as they appeared,” he concluded.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, the conservatives gained victory at the parliamentary elections getting over 200 seats out of 290. Their traditional opponents – reformists got about 20 seats.
