YEREVAN. – Quite troubling attitudes have formed, within some halls of power and some cross-sections of the society, with respect to the Karabakh conflict, said Vartan Oskanian—Armenia’s former FM and the ruling coalition’s Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) member—during PAP’s sixth congress on Saturday.   

“[But] Our success in Karabakh, the diplomatic affirmation of the self-determination right of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh must become the source for our hope and faith, and, consequently, the main impetus for the development of our economy and country. [And] Since we have a Karabakh problem, we must become democratic as quickly as possible,” Oskanian stated.   

In his words, Nagorno-Karabakh has self-determined, and the international community has already recognized its right for self-determination.  

“If we have made one thing irreversible and unequivocal over the course of these twenty years, that is [the fact that] Nagorno-Karabakh cannot be a part of Azerbaijan. Our task today must be to triumph in the diplomatic field. We need to pass from the platform of recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh people’s right to self-determination to the recognizing the fact of Nagorno-Karabakh people’s self-determination,” Vartan Oskanian stressed.
