We are not normalizing Turkish-Armenian relations. This is not a process of normalization, but a process of building trust. We are trying to build trust so that we can take comprehensive steps that will lead us to the full normalization of relations between the two countries. Turkish Special Representative for Turkey-Armenia Normalization Process, Serdar Kilic, stated this during the Yerevan Dialogue 2026 international forum Tuesday in the Armenian capital.

He explained that the processes of normalizing Turkish-Armenian relations or building trust cannot be isolated from the general efforts aimed at developing transport infrastructure in the region. And we should not limit ourselves to transport or railways alone. There are more important areas where we need to make efforts: internet connectivity. Transport and air communication are also very important. We need a broader vision to establish regional peace and stability, Kilic noted.

He pointed to the need for a broader approach to transport accessibility and establishing peace and stability in the region. Kilic said he has his own ideas about who should present proposals on this issue, and whether third countries should also come up with ideas. However, in general, any idea for strengthening and developing relations, as well as establishing long-term and lasting peace and stability in the region, should be born in the region itself, within the region itself, added Serdar Kilic, thanking the Armenian authorities for their hospitality and noting that he feels at home in Yerevan.

Also, the Turkish special representative for the normalization of relations with Armenia said that he is in a very close environment, adding that throughout the entire Armenian-Turkish process he has enjoyed the friendship and openness shown by Armenia, which has always offered constructive solutions. Although he has some questions about the Armenian side's consistency regarding several proposals, both parties have done a great job and have come a long way, he concluded.
