The upcoming elections are not an ordinary political competition, as their sole and fundamental goal is to defend Armenia's statehood and national identity. Edmon Marukyan, Chairman of the Bright Armenia party, who also heads the latter's proportional representation list for the upcoming parliamentary elections, stated this during a press conference Thursday.
The opposition figure emphasized that in the current conditions his political team is abandoning standard pre-election scenarios. Marukyan explained that the Bright Armenia party is taking this step not to discuss "consumer promises" or social payments. "Our goal is to defend the memory, history of the Armenian people, the culture they created, our traditions, religion, and the national model of the European state that we dream of," he noted.
Developing the topic of state structure, the Bright Armenia party leader emphasized that by saying “European model” he means the nation-state itself, since this format historically originated in Europe.
Also, Edmon Marukyan expressed concern that in recent years, planned work has been carried out against the Armenian people and the Armenian diaspora. It is aimed at “revising” the historical path, he noted.
Marukyan stressed that the Bright Armenia party has set itself the task of restoring the classical foundations of Armenian statehood, which today are trying to replace with foreign ideologies, and calls on voters to become a “shield” on the path of these destructive processes.
