Ruben Rubinyan has been elected as speaker of the ninth convocation National Assembly (NA) of Armenia.

A total of 91 out of 105 MPs participated in the respective vote.

Rubinyan was elected with 63 votes in favor and 28 against.

His candidacy for the post of NA speaker was nominated by the ruling Civil Contract Party.

Earlier, the opposition “Strong Armenia” faction in parliament had announced that they will vote against Rubinyan's candidacy, whereas the opposition "Armenia" faction had stated that they will not participate in the secret ballot.
