The version of Armenia’s constitution proposed by Azerbaijan will not receive our positive assessment. The head of the opposition Strong Armenia faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, Narek Karapetyan, told this to reporters.

Responding to the question about Azerbaijan's latest demands regarding the Armenian constitution and the statements of the ruling power in Armenia that "people acting in the interests of the country will be in the opposition," Karapetyan sarcastically asked in the interests of which country.

The opposition MP emphasized that the consent of the Strong Armenia faction is necessary to hold a referendum on Armenia’s constitution, and Azerbaijan's demands are illegal.

"They [i.e. Azerbaijan] will not decide what our constitution should be like. We are pursuing a peace treaty, it is necessary, but it must close many doors to future threats. Rest assured that all our political steps will be aimed at peace, but will not allow ethnic changes. The leadership of the neighboring country has repeatedly spoken about the intention to change the ethnic composition of Armenia. They talk about ‘return’ when they had not been here, they teach children the notion of ‘Western Azerbaijan,’ Karapetyan stated, recalling that the need for the “anti-Safarov law” tabled by Strong Armenia is due to the absence of a law restricting the acquisition of property in Armenia by its neighbors.

“Rest assured that peace will be such that no one will be able to interfere in the internal affairs of the country,” said Karapetyan.
