Rhetoric about “Western Azerbaijan” is a serious challenge and threat to Armenia, as well as regional security and established peace. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during an international conference, entitled “Comprehensive Security & Resilience – 2026,” on Thursday.

According to him, Armenia is currently facing a challenge related to public and non-public rhetoric, and in this regard, serious challenges arise in the security sector. The Armenian premier noted that the manifestations of this challenge are visible on various occasions.

“The main problem is how we imagine their solution. The principle of reciprocity is being discussed a lot in Armenia, which, however, will never yield results. The successful conclusion of the negotiations on the peace treaty [between Armenia and Azerbaijan] occurred when we decided to move away from the mechanical principle of reciprocity. We faced a situation where the text of the peace treaty had no potential to be improved by the ‘ping-pong’ principle. And we went with a different logic," Nikol Pashinyan noted.
