If Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan starts looking for spies, it will reach himself and his team members. Opposition Strong Armenia Party chairman, businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan on Tuesday told this to reporters.

Commenting on Prime Minister Pashinyan’s statement regarding the “spy” opposition which must be gotten rid of, Karapetyan noted that Pashinyan wants to get rid of himself. “If he starts looking for spies, it will reach himself and his team members. I will only be happy if he takes that path with quick steps,” Karapetyan added.

The opposition politician stressed that both the recent local government elections and the parliamentary elections on June have confirmed the low rating of the incumbent Armenian authorities—only about 30 percent of the vote.

However, the authorities, driven by fear, do not stop exerting pressure, as evidenced by the arrest of about 360 supporters of the Strong Armenia party before the parliamentary elections, as well as dozens of supporters before the local government elections.

As per Karapetyan, the results of the last elections show the failure of the authorities: the latter have tired people so much that they do not go to vote in the elections.

Returning to the topic of possible snap parliamentary elections, the politician expressed confidence that there will be no MP in the “Strong Armenia” Faction in the current National Assembly whom the authorities will be able to convince or put under pressure.

“But Pashinyan also said that if the [new] constitution ‘does not pass,’ then he has nothing to do, and indeed he has nothing to do in the political field of Armenia,” Samvel Karapetyan stated.

At the same time, the Strong Armenia party is ready for snap parliamentary elections at any time, the opposition politician repeated what he had said earlier.
