YEREVAN. – A general jurisdiction court in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan on Monday ruled in favor of the lawsuit that was filed by Armenia Today website coordinator, analyst, and activist Argishti Kiviryan.
Kiviryan had filed a suit against the Police, and with respect to his being taken to a Yerevan police station, on August 1, 2013, and being detained there for more than the lawfully-permitted three hours.
With this verdict, the court reversed the Special Investigation Service decision on not launching a criminal prosecution against the police.
“This ruling showed that persistent struggle yields results in certain respects. [But] this is not a final decision, and it may not yield a result. They may file a criminal case but not achieve any results,” Kiviryan told reporters after the court hearing.
He noted that the final decision for him will be a guilty verdict against the police officers that had committed violence.
