YEREVAN. – Armenian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan’s answer did not satisfy capital city Yerevan’s Nairit chemical [rubber] plant workers, who gathered in front of the Government building on Wednesday.

As a result, they decided to continue their protest across the Presidential Palace (PHOTOS). 

Several plant employees, who had met with the minister, told their colleagues that Movsisyan promised to have one month’s salary paid on February 19 and 20. To note, Nairit has fifteen-month wage arrears.

“We don’t need one month’s salary. We will not gather near the Government [building] every time so they may give [us] a one-month salary,” the workers complained.       

Over 2,000 Nairit workers, who have been laid off for four years now, are also concerned about the fate of the plant.

The minister also did not give a clear answer on the fate of the plant. He only said that the government is negotiating with the Russian Rosneft Company, and the matter of reopening the plant will be clarified soon.    

At present, several hundred plant employees, accompanied by numerous police officers, are marching toward the Presidential Palace, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informs.
