The northernmost house of worship of the Armenian Apostolic Church has opened in Yakutsk, Russia, informed the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic government website.

Bishop Yezras Nersissian, who is Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Russia and New Nakhijevan, formally consecrated the church and celebrated a Holy Mass in the new place of worship.

Although the church does not have a pastor at present, Bishop Nersissian said it will always be open to the faithful. As per the bishop, a clergyman will come to Yakutsk at least once a month.

The church is 27 meters high, all the construction materials were brought from Armenia, and the church was built by donations of the faithful.

“[A total of] 100 million [Russian] rubles [approx. $2,696,327] were spent on construction, which took 2.5 years,” said the construction’s chief patron, Sos Varzhapetyan.

In addition, a separate construction work is underway in the church area, to build a public center that will house a Sunday school, a recording studio, the office of the Association of Yakutsk Armenians, etc.
