make preferableYEREVAN. – Hundreds of protesters gathered near government's building on Monday to protest against introduction of law on turnover tax.
Last week Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan promised that he would make new proposal on the law in three days.
The demonstrators are carrying “Large business is authorities” poster, while the action is being cordoned by numerous police officers, including Yerevan police chief Valery Osipyan.
The Prime Minister agreed to receive three activists who are in the government's building at the moment.
Pursuant to the new Law on Turnover Tax, which came into force on October 1, a business enterprise will be warned at first, and, subsequently, it will be fined for not submitting a document on its commodity circulation.
The large businesses, however, often do not provide documents to the small and medium-sized enterprises concerning the products. The government justifies these amendments with the need to prevent tax evasion by Armenia’s large businesses.
