Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) military serviceman Karen Hovhannisyan, 23, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound from an Azerbaijani bullet while in the line of duty on Wednesday, was laid to rest Friday with a military burial.

Hovhannisyan’s fellow soldiers as well as commanding staff also were on hand at the ceremony.

The Medal for Service in Battle, which was posthumously awarded to the military serviceman by the decree of NKR President Bako Sahakyan, was handed to the parents of the fallen soldier.

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, had attended the memorial service for Karen Hovhannisyan.
