British engineers have developed a concrete which remains dry under all conditions.

The Lafarge Tarmac company has introduced the Topmix Permeable concrete, which can “drink” around 4,000 liters of water in about one minute.

The system works by having a permeable layer of concrete on top that allows water to drain through a matrix of relatively large pebbles into a loose base of rubble beneath.

The water that falls on such asphalt disappears almost immediately.

Despite all the advantages, however, such a concrete cannot be used in regions with temperatures below 0˚C, reported the Rosbalt news agency of Russia.
