make preferableArmenia’s early Medieval Zvartnots Temple lit up blue Saturday joining the global campaign in commemoration of the UN’s 70th anniversary.
The 7th-century temple has been enlisted in the UNESCO International Heritage Sites since 2000.
On October 23 and 24, over 200 monuments in the world’s more than 60 countries lit up blue, which is the color of the UN.
The campaign was joined by a number of world-known buildings: blue will be spread from Sydney Opera House in Australia to Giza pyramid in Egypt, from the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro to the Empire State Building in New York.
Among other participants are Russia’s Hermitage Museum, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, Edinburgh castle and Central Hall Westminster in the UK, Table Mountain in South Africa, Tokyo Skytree in Japan and Alhambra Complex in Spain.
UNBlue campaign is joined by 4 monuments in Armenia: building of Armenian National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet in Yerevan, St. Gregory Temple (Zvartnots) (5-7th century), Tufenkian Old Dilijan Complex (19-20th century) in the city of Dilijan and Mother Armenia statue in the city of Gyumri.
