YEREVAN. - It’s not common in Armenia for women to lie and nail themselves to the asphalt.

National Assembly (NA) Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also the spokesperson for Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), told the aforementioned to the journalists after the RPA Executive Body session, referring to the clashes in Yerevan’s Mashtots Avenue today.  

In his words, any protest and action in Armenia must be carried out strictly observing the legislation.

“I accept that the citizens have the right to hold protests, but there was something surprising for me [today], something that was new for our mentality. It’s not common in our country for women to lie and nail themselves to the asphalt,” he said.

To the view that the policemen used force against the protestors, Sharmazanov said: “There might be other witnesses and statements that the police didn’t do that. [Personally] I had the impression that the police themselves didn’t want clashes. We must learn to respect our policemen.”
