YEREVAN. – Vaghinak Grigoryan, 12, who died on April 2 as a result of an Azerbaijani “Grad (Hail)” missile attack to Zoravan village in Martuni Region of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh), was just meters away from the place where a missile had fallen.

The child’s neighbor, Arpine Ghukasyan, who was with him minutes before the respective explosion, told about the aforementioned to the Armenian News-NEWS.am special correspondent in Artsakh.

“I was with Vagharshak [(as Vaghinak was called in the village)], outside our building. My girlfriend called [from a mobile phone], said, ‘Come ahead a bit, let’s  go to school together.’ I told Vagharshak, ‘ ‘Wait, I’ll go over to my girlfriend, [and then] come,” Ghukasyan said. “On my way, I heard a sound in front of the building, raised my head, [but] nothing could be seen; the sky was all red, and I fell to the ground.”

Arpine said she does not remember other details of this explosion, and that she had awakened somewhere else.

“I opened my eyes, I saw that I was in the cellar of Vagharshak’s home,” she added. “I went out to the balcony; my mom was running. We went to the cellar with my mom, but a man came, said that there were wounded children outside. Me and my mother went out, we saw Vagharshak’s mom; she was running with bloody hands.”

Vaghinak Grigoryan was the son of a soldier. The 12-year-old boy was killed while he was at school. His brother and friend, however, were wounded on April 2 at around 8:30am, as a result of the Azerbaijani armed forces’ missile attack from BM-21 “Grad (Hail)” launch vehicles toward the defensive positions in NKR Martuni Region. They underwent surgeries and are in critical but stable condition.
